SWRPEDIA - Second Life Star Wars Roleplay Wiki

The People's Galactic Alliance was a work of non-fiction published by Selkisto Horten after a long period of isolation following the withdrawal of the Revenant Armada from Coruscant. At this point merely an amateur historian, Horten released the work due to a desire to give "faithful witness" to the accomplishments of those he worked with, and, it is implied, to act as a reference book for current and future understanding of exactly what the PGA was and the role it played in the galaxy.

Rather than using notations and sources in an academic fashion, copies of relevant documents were included without direct commentary, where they applied to the body of the text. This is likely the most valuable historical contribution, not only collecting these documents but attempting to sort them chronologically and along a greater context.

Published on the holonet using the remainder of his funds, and distributed without charge, the full text follows.

The People's Galactic Alliance[]

Forward[]

My name is Selkisto Horten, and this is the full story of the Peoples' Galactic Alliance. I don't claim to be the ultimate authority of objective truth, but I think it's fair to say I am one of the best authorities on the PGA.

What follows is the sort of obsessive project of a man who has seen entire galactic entities rise and fall, more than once, in his lifetime. Unfortunately that's because I've grown quite old, old enough that death will be knocking at my door soon. My dust will soon be as insignificant or as important as any other stellar particle that floats through space. However, I will not suffer my memories to die with me. I have served alongside, and been soaked in the blood of, far too many tremendous, admirable, and inspirational individuals to let that happen. I dedicate this to them.

I dedicate this to my two sons, Jendon and Christopher. Adopted sons, not one with me in blood, but most surely one in spirit. I dedicate this also to my adopted grandson and namesake. I couldn't be more proud.

I dedicate this to the most well-intentioned, loyal servants to peace and good in the galaxy that I have ever known: Owyn Graves, Azlum Grimlock, Talmerith Jael.

I dedicate this to the bravest warriors I've ever had the honor of calling comrades, living and dead: Carver, Carlinso, Deuce, Diff, Ragu, Selonna, Shinn, Skytower, Rexen.

I dedicate this to all who are patriots not to a nation but to the ideal that peace can be achieved if enough good people do enough hard work.

And finally I dedicate this to my wife. To Hyacinth, the woman whose absence motivated me to see beyond myself, but not the shell of a creature I ended up saving.

This has been a labor of love. I have tried to be as faithful to the truth as possible. I have included relevant documents where possible. It is not perfect. It is not complete. It is not without bias. But it is the best I could make it.

I am at peace with the man I will be when I die. However, it is only by bearing faithful witness to the work of those who have gone before me, and to the work of those without the luxury of dying in peace.

This is my witness.

Afterword[]

Before I set out to do this, I tapped my frankly exhaustive memory, and the memories of a few others. The periods over which I had direct agency or involvement, are mostly chapters 1 through 4, though they also go the furthest back in history, and suffer some from it. The chapters after the election following my term were constructed through gathering personal accounts, press releases, interviews, and other relevant materials. That's chapters 5 and 6. I also included these things, if I could find them, in the preceding chapters. I included a final chapter of observations I noticed upon analyzing this history as a whole.

I have every expectation that this will be casually dismissed, or even derided, by certain individuals, before being relegated to collect dust at the bottom of some archive. I could have done nothing if not for the generosity of those who shared their experiences before me. I wish to die believing that there are people elsewhere in the galaxy, if only a small, precious few, who also search history to find the means to create a brighter future. I hope that they find value and meaning in these passages.

To conclude, this is a letter I wrote but never sent to Thalia, when she was anointed queen of Velmor. However, I ultimately stopped myself due to her casual acceptance of the destruction of democracy, for no real reason, despite how many around her gave their lives for such a cause. I didn't want to do her the service of honoring her intentions, even with so little as my own words. She's long since disappeared again. I don't think I could have done much to stop what happened on Velmor, and I did all that I could, which was speak. But maybe my advice will be considered worthwhile to someone out there

To Thalia

Peace is not a lie, it is a dream.

May the Force be with you.
